These old Places
This old home with these old faces
They make me remember these old places
We used to sit, we used to laugh
Now all these things are in the past
The children laugh, they run and play
They make me remember what you used to say
We will live long we will grow old
And now I’ve grown frail, wrinkled, and cold
The youthful smiles in this old town
They make me remember when you placed a crown
Upon my small head, full with brown locks
When we would play kingdom up on the rocks
The stories we read the games we would play
They led us toward love even to this day
And this old bench I remember so well
When you pulled out a ring, and to your knee fell
We started our life together as one
And then I gave birth to our dear son
Now he’s an adult, how fast he has grown
Now our little boy has a family of his own
I smile at my memories knowing they are true
But I frown at the thought I am still hear without you
Now as I stand here leaning on my cane
I look at your stone and read off your name
Your face comes to mind, your beautiful smile
I haven’t seen or heard you in quite a while
But I am no longer sad, I don’t cry anymore
Because I know I have walked through the last door
We both lived so long just like you said
And I’ll fall asleep peacefully as I lay down my head
They make me remember these old places
We used to sit, we used to laugh
Now all these things are in the past
The children laugh, they run and play
They make me remember what you used to say
We will live long we will grow old
